Erin and Jeff at Roaring Camp
This wedding was extra special. For starters, Jeff is a good friend and one of our Wylie Weddings graphic designers. He is so talented and Erin is equally brilliant (she used to sleep on our couch occasionally and I would wake up in the morning with her playing her banjo and singing sweet songs). Second, we got to work as a complete Wylie team!! Yes folks, that means coordination, floral, graphic design, DJ and photography! The respective players: Katie, Jeff, Thad, Erica and Amy had a blast–and here’s the result:
Jeff’s mom, the mother of the groom, made the wonderful and whimsical boutonnieres!

Erin’s bouquet was made with stock, green mist, seeded eucalyptus, anemones, ranunculus, yellow and cream spray garden roses, gerber pom poms and yellow garden roses.
Congrats Jeff and Erin! Thanks for letting us be a part of the amazing dance party and celebration!

Andy and Jenn’s Wedding
It’s been a while. I can recap the last few months with a few words: new clients, rest, glitter, cold, bridal expos, revamping, organizing, dreaming, taxes, family, waiting to see pictures from the wonderful weddings from 2011!
And here is one of them. This one is a bit special to me because it’s my brother’s wedding! While this wedding hit in the height of our season (with a wedding 3 days later and 3 days before!), I pulled it together and trecked up to Placerville to throw a rehearsal cocktail party and do flowers for the wedding the following day. Doing flowers in a town that is not my own is tricky. I ended up taking over the ballroom of our hotel and turned it into Flower Central. At one point I went next door to the flower shop and bought out every red flower in the place!
Floral theme: wild, unexpected, colorful, herbs, baby’s breath…and RAINBOW for the ceremony.
One of my favorite things I got to do was make a special boutonniere for my brother, Andy. As a lot of their wedding was made up of family pieces that held meaning, we thought that would be fun to carry through. Jenn’s bouquet was made out of family brooches, some from my Grandma Wylie. When my Grandpa Wylie was still alive, he had a hobby of finding, shaping and finishing rocks. When he passed, Andy and I got a few of these–including an awesome bollo tie. And what is the man version of a brooch? A bollo tie. I got to take it apart (to be put back together again) and add a little gold bling that I found at the flea market to make a cool boutonniere that I LOVED.
It should also be noted, that our wonderful DJ, Thaddeus Cortez, KILLED it. Andy and Jenn were so scared of getting a cheesy DJ and Thad exceeded their expectations. My family is still talking about the amazing dance party and although it’s months later, I think my neck is still sore.

Buddy and Tessa’s Summer Camp Wedding!
There are few weddings that are as memorable and fun as this one. Picture this–a weekend away with all your closest family and friends–campfire, talent show, dancing, pig roast, capture the flag, Tye-dying, hikes, late night dancing, brunch, bullhorns, sunglasses, bandanas, bug spray….and….a wedding. It was so fun to work through the process of planning this wedding together. Not only are Buddy and Tessa super cool, beautiful and in love, they came with some of the best dressed wedding guests I’ve seen in a while. Here are my favorites from their super fun summer camp wedding!

Tracy and Dan: Flowers
This summer has held some of the most fun weddings we have ever been a part of. Lots of different ideas, different styles, different fun (and unique) wedding guests. The one thing that holds everything together is that they are all BEAUTIFUL and LOVE always abounds.
Tracy and Dan were no different. They were such a fun couple–relaxed and fun. The Wylie team got to do floral design and desserts for this beautiful wedding up at Costanoa. Here are a few pics of the flowers. Pics of the desserts will come….(cake pops….lots of them).
Costanoa was such a beautiful location for this wedding! Loved getting to celebrate with Tracy and Dan and wish them all the best! Will be sure to show you pics of the yummy dessert table soon!
Are Roses Underrated Now??
I never thought I would post this, but I think roses have been given a bad wrap lately. I hear people say all the time, “I just don’t want roses”. But I’m starting to think that those of us who say that (myself included) mean that we don’t like the traditional way roses have been used. But when you look at a rose up close–especially one that isn’t red (not sure why i feel that way), they really are beautiful. Stunning sometimes. The symmetry and the way they open and the colors!! I’m starting to play more with roses and not be as scared of them. I’m tempted to think that just because i’m using roses the piece will turn out looking traditional and lame…but not anymore!
Top 5 Forgotten Items
When you mix a bride, groom and the letters DIY, there are bound to be forgotten items. Here are my top 5 items that the bride/groom have forgotten about in their planning process:
1. ICE!!! (who will get it? we need ice? )
2. Bottle Openers (crucial–the whole “hitting the bottle against a wall in a shoe” concept takes a REALLY long time)
3. Trash Cans/Trash Bags (“oh my gosh, i didn’t even think of that!”)
4. Lighters (both the actual fire lighters and figuring out who will light candles!!)
5. How are we getting there?
So there you go. You should take that list as “the 5 reasons to hire a day of coordinator”–because those are the types of things we catch!
Matt & Anna
So, i’ve been waiting to share with you all the beautiful wedding of Anna and Matt. Thankfully, the wonderful photographer I got to work with, TJ Taylor, posted a sneak peak at the images he captured.
I made Matt’s boutonniere from all fresh herbs–sage, rosemary, thyme and bay leaves–with scabiosa pods and hypericum berries. I LOVED making these (even though there were about 15 of them that I made in the midst of coordinating and making centerpieces that day…).
Anna gave me artistic freedom when it came to how we decorated the altar. I had the idea of incorporating the burlap and lace that they were using in other areas of the wedding. After a few failed attempts (including a lunch break to go and sketch out new ideas), I was finally happy with the results.
The best thing about this wedding? Matt and Anna were SO EXCITED to marry each other. It was unreal and beautiful and the way it should be.
DIY-but don’t forget the details
We’ve all been to those weddings where things haven’t been thought through. Doing it yourself doesn’t mean you have to be unorganized or unprepared. Let us help you work it out. We have been there and know the questions to ask and can spend time helping you bring all your ideas together. If you aren’t able to hire a wedding coordinator, this is the next best thing!
Ever wonder where WYLIE came from?
People often ask me where Wylie came from for WYLIE WEDDINGS. Well, let me tell you. Meet Grandpa Wylie:
That’s me with my mothers father, Charles Redick Wylie. Wylie is my mothers maiden name and subsequently my middle name. I used to hate it. Then I kinda started liking it (sounds like the story of most kids–we end up loving the things we hate). When we started talking about starting a business I probably spend about 3 days wracking my brain for business names. I mean, that’s the most important part, right? I remember Steveyann, Nathan (her husband) and I sitting around brainstorming. We were really trying to come up with something punny, catchy or witty or both. After a LOT OF BAD IDEAS that thankfully have escaped my memory, I said, what about using Wylie? And we went for it.
It’s a bit weird sometimes using and hearing my name all the time. (example, “are you working on that for Wylie?”). But it’s been fun. It’s also helped instil a bit of family pride.
Our deepest apologies for Wiley Valentine, another wonderful wedding vendor, for choosing a name so similar.
Julie&Thomas: Invitations
We are SO proud of this piece and are so excited to share the process with you. Julie and Thomas came to us with a rough idea about what they wanted and didn’t want. After leaving our first meeting with a Surfer magazine and ideas swarming, Jeff Neckers–our lead, and only, designer and artistic director on this piece–and I brainstormed all the fun possibilities. I think it is fun to show you the creative process, so here is the inspiration Jeff designed that we worked off of:
Julie and Thomas love to surf–and loved the idea of giving their guests a glimpse of their perspective from sitting on their boards in the water. They wanted their invites to be fun, casual, yet beautiful. They were some of the best people to work with when it came to changes. They made it SO easy for us to customize the designs to make sure it was “THEM”.
The next piece created was their Save the Date. To make it unique and special, we used a picture that was taken when Thomas proposed. I’m not sure where the ring was–but he proposed after they had just come in from surfing.
The piece consisted of 4 pieces–the main invitation and 3 smaller pieces that nestled in a pocket on the back. The three cards: RSVP postcard, directions and accommodations were stacked heights so you could see them together. The idea of the back pocket turned out beautifully and avoided having to use another method for putting the pieces together. Let’s be honest, stuffing a pocket with a card is way easier than tying twine or ribbon around the pieces!
Congrats Julie & Thomas! And congrats to Jeff Neckers for another amazing design creation!
